THE GREAT HAND REVIVAL
This design exhibition was created as a way to draw attention to the increased appreciation of all that is handmade, homegrown, and artisanal we are experiencing today and how it has manifested itself in design and advertising. When curating this exhibit, I wanted to highlight some of the myriad ways that the craftsman & woman movement has inadvertently changed the manner in which products and the advertisements that sell them communicate to consumers visually. I examined design examples that I feel genuinely embody the handmade/small batch mentality, as well as some instances where aesthetic choices hint at this mentality without actually following through in their actions. My goal for this project is to encourage viewers to look for the touches of the human element in their day to day lives, and perhaps further appreciate the extent to which craftsmanship and affinity for the handmade has entered our design-scape.
