THE NIGHT WHALE
This is one of a series of prints I made in an intaglio course on the topic of the ocean. More specifically, I was fascinated by a podcast I'd heard about whales and how, when a whale dies in the ocean, it sustains life for up to 70 years as it descends to the ocean floor. When we think of whales, they are these gargantuan creatures that rule the seas, but this new information caused me to see whales as just a tiny speck compared to the vastness of the ocean. In the creation of this series, I used the image of the ocean as it exists in my imagination to make complex, whirlpool patterns and conjure up outlandish sea creatures, forming a concept of the ocean based on my own small, human perspective.
